How to get a Mailchimp API Key?
Every website or webshop can be integrated with Mailchimp services. This can be done by manually inserting the integration code or by setting up a specific Mailchimp integration plugin. Regardless of how we go about integrating Mailchimp services, we need an Mailchimp API Key to do that. Here’s how to get a Mailchimp API Key.
What’s an API Key?
Mailchimp API is an application programming interface that enables computers and services to connect and communicate among each other. In Mailchimp’s case it enables the connection between your website or webshop and Mailchimp services. The API Key is a unique key, which grants the permission to use Mailchimp services.
How to get the Mailchimp API Key?
Mailchimp API Key can be obtained by visiting mailchimp.com and logging into your account. From there, we click our 1) Profile and choose 2) Account from the dropdown menu.

A new window opens. Hover over 3) Extras and click 4) API keys from the dropdown menu.

A new window opens. Move down to the section called 5) API keys. There is a complete list of all active and inactive keys. To get a specific key, click on its field 6) API key select and copy its content. You can copy the content pa pressing CTRL+C on your keyboard or by clicking your right mouse button and selecting Copy. The key is successfully copied and now you can paste it onto your website or webshop.

In case the Mailchimp API Key has not yet been created, you can click the button Create A Key, which can be found at the bottom of the API Key list. The newly generated API Key should also appear on that list.
How to get a List ID?
The List ID is a unique identifier for individual lists of contacts – called Audiences. In order to get the Audience/List ID, click 1) Audience and chose 2) Audience Dashboard. To the right of the screen you will see a dropdown called 3) Manage Audience. Click the dropdown and choose 4) Settings.

A new window will open. Scroll to the bottom of the page, where you’ll see a field called Unique id for audience “Name of audience”. The contents of the field is you List ID/Audience ID.
